Equidistant Channel Projections in Trending and Consolidating Regimes
How to construct parallel corridors, utilize median line reactions, and identify channel overshoot climaxes before momentum exhausts.
Price action rarely moves in straight lines; rather, it oscillates within structured geometric corridors defined by parallel supply and demand forces. Constructing an equidistant channel begins with identifying two dominant swing pivots that form the trend's slope, followed by anchoring a parallel ray through the intervening opposing extreme.
The most informative element inside an equidistant channel is the 50% median line. When an asset is in a robust uptrend, price will spend the majority of its time oscillating between the median line and the upper channel boundary, repeatedly bouncing off the median as support. If price fails to reach the upper boundary and instead struggles below the median, it is an early warning of momentum decay.
Furthermore, when price violently pierces the outer boundary of an established channel without consolidation—a phenomenon known as an overshoot—it typically indicates a terminal climax rather than an acceleration. Recognizing when a move is an overshoot enables chartists to prepare for sharp mean reversion back toward the channel baseline.
